Rewilding Efforts Aim to Restore Ecosystems in French Alps
“We are working with the residents of the Dauphine Alps to make nature functional again in this region,” explained Aurelien Guiraud, spokesperson for Rewilding France, the national branch of the Rewilding Europe Foundation.
Guiraud noted that the Dauphine Alps is the 11th location where the group has launched projects. He told a news agency that the foundation provides financial support for rewilding initiatives in the countries where it operates.
He emphasized that their work focuses on encouraging natural processes, with the long-term goal of enabling ecosystems to adapt independently to climate change.
“These actions range from supporting the natural regeneration of forests to working on rivers to restore certain river sections to their natural state,” Guiraud said.
Established in 2011, the Rewilding Europe Foundation currently functions in 10 nations, including France, Guiraud told the news agency as part of its series "Europe's Peak: The Alps," which explores global warming and its effects on the Alpine region.
