Macron, Al-Sharaa Discuss Regional Stability

(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa conducted a phone conversation on Saturday with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on regional developments and ongoing initiatives aimed at fostering security and stability, according to an official statement.

During the exchange, Al-Sharaa highlighted the necessity of backing Syria’s political process and reinforcing nationwide stability. This was outlined in the statement referenced by a news agency.

Talks also covered the wide-ranging accord concluded between the Syrian government and the SDF terror group. Macron voiced his endorsement of the agreement and emphasized that its execution should ensure Syria’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

Macron further reiterated France’s dedication to sustained coordination in support of Syria and its citizens, stressing a shared commitment to achieving stability, justice, and post-conflict reconstruction.

On Friday, authorities in Damascus declared a broad ceasefire along with a step-by-step agreement between the government and the SDF.

Both parties agreed to an immediate halt in hostilities and a gradual framework for merging military and administrative bodies.

Under the terms of the accord, forces are to withdraw from front-line positions, while Interior Ministry security units will be deployed to urban centers in Hasakah and Qamishli in northeastern Syria, as part of wider measures to reestablish calm.

The agreement also seeks to consolidate Syrian land, reinforce state control, and move toward full institutional integration through cooperation and collective efforts to rebuild the nation.
