Syria's President Secures French Support for SDF Agreement
The leaders examined regional developments and stability initiatives, with Al-Sharaa emphasizing "the importance of supporting the Syrian political process and enhancing stability across the country," a Syrian news agency reported.
Central to their discussion was the sweeping accord between Damascus and the SDF terror organization, which Macron endorsed while stressing "the need for its implementation in a manner that guarantees Syria's unity and sovereignty."
France's president pledged ongoing collaboration "to support Syria and the Syrian people on a path toward stability, justice and reconstruction," according to the official statement.
Friday's announcement of a comprehensive ceasefire marked a potential turning point after months of escalating tensions. The framework commits both parties to an immediate halt in hostilities alongside a graduated integration of military and administrative apparatus.
Under the terms, forces will pull back from confrontation zones while Interior Ministry security personnel deploy to Hasakah and Qamishli urban centers in Syria's northeast—a strategic move designed to restore governmental authority.
The pact seeks to reunify Syrian territory under state control and pursue complete institutional merger through collaborative reconstruction efforts.
However, Damascus had previously inked a January 18 ceasefire and integration agreement with the SDF, only to later accuse the group of multiple "serious" violations.
The current arrangement emerged following a Syrian Army military campaign that recaptured substantial territory across eastern and northeastern regions after the SDF allegedly breached earlier understandings repeatedly.
