France Enforces Ban on All Oral Nicotine Products Starting April 1
The decree outlines a broad range of banned items, encompassing portion pouches and porous pouches, pastes, pellets, liquids, chewing gums, lozenges, strips, and any hybrid combinations thereof — effectively eliminating the entire oral nicotine product category from the market.
The crackdown extends beyond consumers alone. Under the terms of the decree, the restriction applies across the entire supply chain, targeting manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers dealing in nicotine-containing products alongside end users.
Health advocates have rallied behind the measure, framing it as a critical safeguard for younger generations. The Anti-Tobacco Alliance sounded the alarm over the dangers of nicotine pouches, warning — as cited Wednesday by a local broadcaster— that the ban on pouches is a crucial step to protect young people, as these nicotine pouches are highly addictive and can contain nicotine levels as high as those found in an entire pack of cigarettes.
France now joins a growing number of nations tightening regulatory oversight over novel nicotine delivery products, as public health authorities worldwide raise concerns about their rising popularity among youth.
